At its “Surprise and shine” event on 9 September 2026, Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo — its first foldable iPhone. It opens from a 5.36-inch outer screen into a 7.58-inch inner display, runs the same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro, and starts at $1,999 in the US. India is in the first wave. Here is everything Apple confirmed, plus what to expect on India pricing and availability.

What Apple confirmed
The design
The iPhone Duo folds like a book — a phone-sized 5.36-inch screen on the outside, opening to a 7.58-inch display roughly the footprint of an iPad mini. Apple has built the body from grade 5 titanium with a mirror polish, added Ceramic Shield 2 for durability, and engineered the hinge from more than 100 parts to support the centre of the flexible panel and give a firm open-and-close action. Apple is also calling it its thinnest iPhone to date.
Cameras and performance
The Duo carries a 48MP Fusion Main camera with 2x telephoto and optical stabilisation, plus a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. Because both screens can act as a viewfinder, Apple is pushing foldable-only camera tricks — for example letting your subject preview the shot on the outer screen, and a “Smart Take” mode so the person holding the phone can still be in the frame. Inside is the A20 Pro, the same 2nm chip as the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple quotes up to 31 hours of video on the inner display, 44 hours on the outer display, and around 24 hours of mixed use per charge.
iPhone Duo India launch date and price
Apple has confirmed that India is in the first wave. Global pre-orders open 16 October 2026 and sales begin 23 October 2026; India should follow the same dates or within a day, as it did for the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple India had not published local pricing at the time of writing.

Should you buy the first foldable iPhone?
First-generation folding phones usually improve a lot in their second year, and at roughly ₹2 lakh the Duo is a big commitment. In our view, most people should wait for independent reviews and durability testing before ordering — particularly around the crease, the hinge over time and software that genuinely uses the larger screen. If you already own and love a folding Android phone and want to move to iOS, the Duo is the first time that has been an option. Supply is expected to be tight at launch, so registering interest early will matter if you do want one.
